Roxana Albu

Roxana Albu is the Senior Cancer Control Officer at ECL. She is a doctor in pharmaceutical sciences and an expert in health data governance.

She has extensive experience in the field of clinical and translational research, especially in oncology. She is also a certified data protection officer (Maastricht University) and a legal expert on health data regulations and policies.

Roxana started her career as a scientific research assistant at the Institute of Biochemistry of the Romanian Academy, where she worked on glycobiology projects with applications in melanoma research. She then pursued her doctoral studies at the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium, focusing on haematological neoplasms and the role of calreticulin mutations in myeloproliferative neoplasms.

After obtaining her PhD, Roxana joined the EORTC – European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer, where she held various positions in regulatory affairs, site activation, data protection, and international health regulations. She was involved in coordinating and conducting multicenter clinical trials in oncology, as well as developing and implementing data protection policies and procedures. She also contributed to the public consultation on the European Health Data Space Regulation and its impact on clinical research.

She also has experience as a business developer for clinical research and a master’s degree in management from the Solvay Business School.

Roxana is fluent in English, French, Italian, and Romanian, and has a limited working proficiency in Dutch. She is passionate about science, innovation, and education, and strives to improve the standard of cancer treatment and the protection of personal data for patients.
