EU Healthy Air Coalition launches new infographic to mark Clean Air Day.

7 September 2025

Clean air is essential for cancer prevention. Air pollution is responsible for nearly 374,000 lung cancer deaths each year – about one in five globally – and is also linked to brain, liver, kidney and bladder cancer. For people already living with cancer, exposure to polluted air can worsen symptoms, complicate treatments, and reduce survival rates.

The EU Healthy Air Coalition (EUHAC), of which ECL is a proud member, brings together non-profit health experts to advocate for better health for all through clean air. Our coalition stands for science-based policy change in the EU that prioritises prevention of air pollution at its sources to prevent lives lost, new cases of disease, health care costs, and increasing socio-economic inequalities. Together, we call the EU to become the global leader in tackling air pollution, through becoming the first region in the world to achieve the World Health Organization’s 2021 air quality guidelines.
