On 30 September 2026 at the European Parliament, the Association of European Cancer Leagues and Interest Group MEPs Against Cancer convened around the topic of financial discrimination of cancer survivors. On this date, ECL launched a new position paper, convening policymakers, patient advocates, and experts to address this topic and the Right to be Forgotten. With more than 20 million cancer survivors living across Europe, the Right to be Forgotten remains a critical protection mechanism.
This paper outlines ECL’s evidence-based recommendations for a maximum five-year protection period, binding legal safeguards, and a common European framework—moving beyond the current patchwork of national solutions. Please find the paper below:
