Medicine shortages are an increasing problem in the EU, with shortages of oncology drugs posing a particularly serious challenge. Cancer affects many people, and many oncology medicines have a narrow therapeutic window, making them difficult to substitute.
The Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL) welcomes the proposed Critical Medicines Act, which aims to tackle severe shortages of essential medicines across Europe and to reduce the EU’s reliance on external suppliers, strengthening the supply of critical cancer drugs.
To contribute to this important policy debate, ECL is launching a new position paper on the Critical Medicines Act, setting out key recommendations to strengthen the EU’s security of supply of medicines and ensure that every cancer patient in Europe has access to the life-saving medicines they need.
