Laura is a medical student at the University of Latvia and have always dreamed of becoming an oncologist. She is interested in both the research and the clinical side of oncology. In addition to her studies, she is a member of the oncology scientific group at her university and regularly volunteers at a hospital. In 2019, she took part in ESMO’s medical courses on oncology in Spain and she is now conducting research on lung cancer. Laura is a strong believer that what makes cancer different from other diseases is its late diagnosis in late stages, so prevention is the most important part in decreasing its morbidity. Her goal as an ECL Youth Ambassador is to spread awareness about cancer prevention in Latvia so that the general public could gain insights on cancer, the consequences of their habits and take control over their health.
