Amanda is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Trinity College Dublin. She is a registered nurse who has worked in radiation and medical oncology settings and holds a PhD (Nursing), an MSc (Cancer Care) and a BSc (Hons, Nursing). Her PhD was funded by the Health Research Board and examined colorectal cancer survivors’ experiences of follow-up care, and their potential impact upon quality of life outcomes. She is actively involved in the design, implementation and supervision of research projects in the areas of cancer care, palliative care and chronic illness and lectures on undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes. She is the Young Cancer Nurses representative on the European Oncology Nursing Society’s Executive Board. As an ECL Youth Ambassador, she believes actions to promote prevention and early diagnosis are critical to avert the lifelong consequences of cancer which hinder an individuals’ ability to live a fulfilling life and reduce personal and economic costs associated with reactive healthcare provision for cancer and cancer-related mortality.
